Daniel Tessy

Composer, Sound Designer, Producer, Songwriter, and Educator

Who is Daniel Tessy?
Daniel Tessy (he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist operating on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations (“Vancouver”). A settler of Iraqi, Jamaican and Dutch descent, he has worked a variety of roles in the theatre industry before finding his true niche as a sound designer and composer, delivering atmospheric and immersive soundscapes with background music.
In addition to all things sound-related (live tech, recording and mixing engineering, producing), his work as a lighting designer, production designer and director has graced the Vancouver stages for years. His collaborators have at times referred to him as “a visionary director,” “totally genius,” a “great sound designer” and “always calm and patient…so kind and professional.” Daniel teaches Live and Studio Sound Design at Capilano University, with frequent research informing his classes and new projects.
Daniel is also an active musician in the Vancouver scene, performing and releasing music in projects such as Fuzzy P, Tesstopia and DELICATESSY, as well as some fun stints as a session player on his various instruments (guitar, keyboards, bass, trumpet, synth). He frequently adapts and changes through different genres and influences with an eclectic body of work. He’s also getting into some cool film scoring work. He conducts all of his composition and recording work from a home studio in the city.
